Sensitive ir receiver

In a Arduino project, I use a Hx-1838 board as ir receiver.
The distance to the remote is short, about 2 meters.
The same remote is used with a Samsung GX-VD940CJ set-top box.
I notice that the Samsung respond to much wider angle and seems somewhat more sensitive.
I looked deep inside the Samsung but was unable to identifie their ir module.

I'm in a search for an ir receiver, or circuitry, or signal amplifier, or anything
that can be used to achieve the same sensitivity.

Thanks !

Yes they are not great receivers & only cost a few cents.

For higher quality go with Vishay.

TSOP34438 or other TSOPxxx38 should work fine.

Noted!

I did search the net but did not found anything that look serious about ir receiver sensivity.

I already have untested TSOP38238 and TSOP4838 in my ir box.
Since it is a guru recommendation, to complete my assortment I will order some Vishay TSOP34438 right away.

Thanks a lot.

I received the Vishay tsop34438-nd from my yesterday order at Digikey. (This is fast service!)
1.26 $CA a piece.
Since it was the same pinout I replaced the one on the Hx-1838 board.
Boy! No comparaison! I can point the remote anywhere, the Vishay get it.
This one I will remember...

Thanks again...
